Under § 40 (4) SGB XI, the care insurance fund pays up to €4,180 per home-improvement measure and person (as of 2026). If several people in need of care live in the household, up to €16,720 is possible. The grant is income-independent and can be applied for again if the care level increases.

For the care insurance grant you need at least care level 1. Without a care level we will of course still convert your bathroom to be barrier-free – we then check alternative funding such as the KfW grant (455-B) and the tradesperson tax relief.

For a typical tub-to-shower conversion the grant often covers the entire cost – your own contribution is then €0. For larger renovations the grant significantly reduces your share. After the on-site appointment you receive a binding fixed-price quote.

A tub-to-shower conversion is often completed in a single day. A partial renovation usually takes 1–2 days, a complete renovation a few days. Processing of the grant application by the care insurance fund usually takes 4–6 weeks.

Yes. We prepare all the documents, word the application correctly (which is decisive for approval) and submit it in good time before construction begins. You just need to sign. On request we bill the care insurance fund directly after completion.

Relatives contact us very often. You can arrange everything for your parents – even from another city. We coordinate the details with you, are there in person for your parents at the on-site appointment, and keep you up to date with photos and short updates. For the application we only need the signature of the person in need of care or an authorised representative.

We know that well. Many older people shy away from conversion, cost and effort. That's exactly why our on-site appointment is free and without obligation – we explain calmly, show how little changes (often just one day of work) and that, thanks to funding, the own contribution is usually very low or €0. That puts almost everyone's mind at ease.

Yes, rented flats can also be converted to be barrier-free and funded. The landlord's consent is required. We support you with this and advise on all the options.
